It all started early 2011 with an idea turned into a reality. Coming out of New York City, Cousins Quasheem (Pasta, Bass) and Jeff (Justice) had been jamming together for a while when Pasta came up with the idea to start a band. The original idea for the band was for it to be a heavy metal version on MGMT, a duo they admired. After some time the two decided to construct a full band so in mid to late 2011, the duo recruited their cousin Lyteek (who had been rapping under the name “Trone” for a couple years prior,) to become the lead vocalist and a friend Justice met through rehearsal studio trips named Chris (Crow) to become the drummer.
The band started to write songs based of ideas Pasta and Justice created. After working on their craft and building some chemistry, MNRTY hit the ground running in 2013, playing everything from small bars and backyards to shows in some solid local venues including: Tammany Hall (played there twice,) headlining at Shillelagh Tavern, Playing with Stardog Champion (which includes Former lead guitarist of Breaking Benjamin Aaron Fink) at Tobacco Road (located in Times Square,) and even the famed Studio at Webster Hall with Four Trips Ahead. After their most recent show the band took some time off to reflect on their year. MNRTY now moves forward and is currently working on their debut EP.
